It's a Celebration! My 100th Post!

This Giveaway is now closed. Thanks for entering, and be sure to visit the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Website to learn more about this fantastic organization!

As I was posting about the cute little S'Mores on a Stick, I suddenly realized - I was nearly to my 100th post!

Yeah, I know. I think there are a few that shouldn't count, too. But, they do. And I'm not gonna take 'em back. 'Cause, well, this is my little corner of the interweb, and I get to do what I want with it.

And what I want to do is give.

I've been wallowing in my own little pity party the last couple of days. I didn't get to see my dad at all over the holiday season (and my kids didn't get to see their Papaw.) Our traditions felt as though they were smashed to bits. While my kids had a great Christmas, and we still fulfilled many of our traditions, it just felt off. You know what I mean?

So, yeah, I'm over it. I'm not generally a negative Nellie, and by golly, it's still the holidays. So, let's celebrate by giving!

I've mentioned my support of the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation in previous posts - once where I picked it as one of my three charities, and one where I just shared information about the foundation. Here's the quick version (and to learn more about Alex, her amazing family, and whole story, visit their website!):

Alexandra Scott had cancer. Only, she was never a smoker, she didn't lay out in the sun slathered in baby oil, none of that. She had cancer that was found before her first birthday.

She was a baby.

It makes me cry. Every. Stinking. Time.

When she was four (FOUR!) she decided she was going to raise money with a lemonade stand in her front yard to help her doctors find a cure for all kids with cancer. This became an annual event, spreading like wildfire, and when Alex lost her battle just a few years later, she was the motivation behind over $1 million in fund raised to finance pediatric cancer research. Since that time, the foundation has raised over $25 million, providing grants for research, education, and family travel support.

I have personally headed up several stands, and do additional fundraising periodically with my Avon business promoting "Avon for Alex" sales. I am a firm believer in Alex's dream, and am happy to Fight Childhood Cancer, One Cup at a Time!

Her family has written a beautiful book, Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand:

From the Barnes and Noble website: Using rhymes and bright whimsical pictures Alex and The Amazing Lemonade Stand tells the inspirational true story of a little girl named Alexandra Alex Scott. Faced with a problem, Alex came up with a plan--to sell lemonade from a lemonade stand! This story shows how the small act of one person can impact many people an important lesson for children of all ages.

I want to share Alex's story with you. A book to share with your children, showing them that even in the face of adversity, you can do great things. Sharing with them that they can make a difference.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

As we enter into 2010, I have so much to be thankful for, not the least of which is that my children are healthy. As I purchase our books (yep, books - 3 of 'em- one for you, one for me, and one for our school library), I will do so knowing that we're helping to
Fight Childhood Cancer, One Cup at a Time.

This giveaway will close at 11:59 pm, EST on Thursday, January 7th. Open to residents of the US, Canada and Mexico.

Good luck, and Happy New Year!

  2. I love this cause - being the former Missions Director at my church, Alex's Lemonade Stand was a cause I'd promote because it was so family-friendly and easy for our children to get involved in - which is always awesome!

  12. Aww Megan, you are doing so much good here! I've heard that story before, and it is heart wrenching. I can't imagine being the parent of a child going through cancer, let alone being the child herself. Tears me up inside.

Of course you know I follow you...
