Entrenched in Official Mommyhood

Yep. It's official.

I've had 3 kids. The first one was nearly 9 years ago. I've changed diapers, wiped noses. I've cleaned up vomit. I've helped with science projects, and even built a swingset.

But today, I crossed a line that I swore I would not cross.

I bought a minivan.

With that one move, I have so firmly entrenched myself in the world of mommyhood, I may never make it back.

Not that I don't love being a mom. I do! But my vehicle was the one place that I was still allowed to sort of be a cool grown up. My SUV gave me room to haul my crew and our stuff. And, dang it, it was NOT a van! But, lately, the kids have been begging me "Can "C" (E's best friend and our neighbor) go with us!?" And sure, we can do that. As long as my husband isn't going, too. Or, C's little sister, G. I'm lucky enough that my mom lives here locally, and we see her a lot. We do any number of things together as a family. And we drive separately. Because I have 5 seats. And 5 people.

So, a couple of months ago, my husband and I talked about it, and agreed that it was time to start looking. We even tried to look at a few at different intervals, but they were always gone by the time we decided to look. I just kept telling myself that it just wasn't meant to be the one. This week really stung, when we even told a salesman we were coming, and they put the van on a truck to go to auction 20 minutes before we arrived.

Today, the pieces finally came together. It's going to be tough swallowing a car payment again, but in the end, I am hopeful that it will all be worth it. Because I love being a mom! Even when I don't show it.

  1. I said I'd never own a minivan either, but as I said in an earlier post, it's like the 5th family member now. Congrats and ENJOY!

Oh, and there's something waiting for you on my latest blog post.
