Gearing Up!

It's almost time.

Right after New Years, I will begin to fall off the planet. Because it will be tax season.

I was asked in the comments of one of my adventures with E & his Terrible Tooth posts about January 25th. I had mentioned that that day was one of my absolute busiest. This was intriguing to Elizabeth from Confessions from a Working Mom because, well, you always hear about tax people and that April 15th date! She commented "I have to ask, though, why is Jan. 25th such a busy day for you? My dad's in a similar industry, I've never heard that date tossed around!"

Valid question! And it's not so much the date as it is the day. It's a Monday. It's the last Monday in January. And at that point, lots of people have their W-2s. They have their unemployment statements. And they want their refunds!

I work for a national tax preparation company - we're a franchise model, so I technically work for my local owner, with the support of the national tax preparation company. I am the Senior General Manager over six locations, handling tax question support, software and program support, customer issue resolution, call center supervision, and changing the toilet paper roll in the bathroom. Seriously, there are a million and one things that need done at any moment, and while we are a BIG company, WE are a small mom and pop organization, and we work under a general policy of if it needs done and you can do it, you do!

Anyway, we have a variety of refund-related products that we offer, and people want them. So, we have about a 10 day window where we are just super busy. Ridiculously, mind numbingly busy. And it coincides with when people get that last document they were waiting on. The end of January, beginning of February is it. And our trends are that Mondays are usually our busiest! So, that Monday, the 25th, and the following Monday, February 1st, will both be pretty crazy busy for me.

So, I'm going to also use this as a chance to ask you, my lovely readers, to bear with me. See, I've not been a blogger yet through a tax season. I may show up and vent. I might be pretty quiet for a few days. I'm just not sure how it will all play out. But I promise, I'll be out here. I'll be lurking. I'll be tweeting (although, it may all be tax related, and you might not give a flip!) And it's my goal to still be posting.

It all starts today, in fact, as I have a training session with some of my core staff (right now, actually) to make sure we're ready for next week, and the next sixteen weeks. And, truth be told, I can't wait.

  4. Interesting about that date, Megan! We'll be checking in on you during that time, to see if you're venting...and we'll be waiting for you once you're back in the land of blogging. Sounds like you and I are both new to this thing! :) Hang in there...use this blog for you, not as an obligation, but for a comfy place to land, and meet up with your bloggy buddies! See ya (or not, as the case may be...). I hope all goes as smooth as can be for you!
