I am, however, interested in the weather that rolls my direction. In our area, we recently got a couple of decent snowfalls, much of which still covers the ground. There is another system headed our way this weekend, and I've been watching the weather to see what's supposed to happen. All day today I kept hearing things like "Ice Storm" followed by statements like "5 to 8 inches". So, I decided to look for myself.
Now, I'd like to draw your attention to Saturday and Sunday.
I'm familiar with hail. Sleet. Snow. There are a number of terms used to describe frozen precipitation.
I've never seen Ice Pellets.
What in the world is THAT supposed to be!?
I mentioned the "Ice Pellets" to one of my coworkers. Asked if she'd ever heard the term used. Nope. And then she got giggling. After a little tangent on owl pellets, we were still left wondering exactly what kind of weather is headed this way.
I guess I'll let you know what we get. And if something is, well, pellet-like, I'll try to even snap a picture or two.
If you are looking at the clouds, imagining shapes and one is shaped like a rabbit...look out for those pellets!!

Ice pellets sounds like a term the meteorologist at my station would use; he has actually used the term "ice biscuits" before. We were all in awe... looking at each other to say, "Did he just make that up?"
