Hate is a strong word, but it is the best fit

I hate it.

I hate that there is this beast, this disease that they call cancer.

I hate that it deems it acceptable to attack the bodies of innocent children.

Children.

Did you know that cancer is the leading cause of death by disease of children under 15, and is second only to accidents in overall causes of death?

That one in every 330 Americans will develop cancer before the age of 20?

That many treatments that exist for pediatric cancers are the same as what we would give to an adult, and rob these children of things like hearing, or the ability to bear children of their own in the future?

That could be my baby. Or yours.

As I write this, I’m thinking of sweet Jensen, who lost his battle this week. I’m thinking about his family, who are planning his funeral instead of his first day of school.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

You WILL read about it here.

Some of the things I will share with you will be hard to read. Others will make your heart soar with joy.

But they are coming.

And we will defeat this monster.

  1. I did not know all of those facts! That is so scary! We really do need to find a way to beat this beast. It breaks my heart that so many children are having to suffer like that!
