Hip-Hop Weekend

No, we're not gonna bust out in rhyme. I'm just playing a bit of catch-up on a couple of my favorite blog hops!

I was going to vlog my 5QF last night, but my computer is literally on it's last legs. As I was nearly finished with the recording, the whole stinkin' computer shut down. Boo. So, fine, you get a classic blog post. And I get to do some laptop shopping soon.

I missed playing along with both of these lovely ladies last week, so I'm glad to be back at it - plus, I've got some fun news to share with you all! More on that after:

Mama M.'s Five Question Friday!
Pretty simple- Mama posts questions, we share answers! This week's questions are

1. What was the first car you owned?

2. What song are you embarrassed to know the lyrics to?

3. Have you ever had stitches?

4. What was your first job?

5. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?

1. What was the first car you owned?
I still own it. Well, actually, I own it again. It's a 1993 Honda Civic Del Sol Si in Samba Green.
I bought it shortly after I graduated from high school, prior to that, I "had" cars, but they were not "my" car. I bought my own gas, paid my own insurance, but my mom ended up buying the cars themselves. This one, I bought. I made payments on. I loved, and drove daily until J was almost a year old.
My brother bought it from me at one point. We bought it back a couple years ago. It needs some work done to it (boys are MEAN to cars!) but I still love it.

2. What song are you embarrassed to know the lyrics to?
At the risk of being the winner of the worst mom of the year award, I cannot stand the fact that I know the words to the Barney song. I cannot stand that purple dinosaur.
Everything else I can chalk up to my own eclectic musical taste.

3. Have you ever had stitches?
Why, yes, yes I have. You see, I have given birth, and one of those little adventures even involved a massive incision across my abdomen. Although, I'm not sure that even counts as stitches, as it was one long "purse-string" stitch that they pulled out 2 days later. It was odd.

4. What was your first job?
I worked at a video store. I was 15 when I started there, and worked on Friday or Saturday nights, helping when it was busy. We popped popcorn, sold candy and two-liters, and rented out movies like nobodies business. I worked there all through high school, at this darling little mom and pop place. Now, it's closed, and there's a chinese restaurant in the space. I can't eat there.

5. Who is your favorite Sesame Street character?

Count Von Count!
There's just something about that laugh. :)

So, there's my Sunday Edition of Five Question Friday. Up next is Keely's
Getting To Know You!

Does anyone else start to sing in their head every.single.time?

Similar to 5QF, Keely shares the questions, we share the answers!

1. If you could star in any movie genre..what would it be..romance..horror..comedy..suspense or action?

2. Do you recycle?

3. Have you ever been to a strip club?

4. Do you have a nickname?

5. What's a name you can't stand to be called?

6. What are your Summer staples?

7. What was the last thing you bought for yourself?

8. Are you happy with your boob size?

1. If you could star in any movie genre..what would it be..romance..horror..comedy..suspense or action?
Well, up until a few weeks ago, I'd have gone with action. Here lately, because of the condition of my back, I'd be scared to death. Yeah, I know, I could have a stunt double, but then, where's the fun? So, for now, I'll go with comedy.

2. Do you recycle?
Not enough. Not as much as we should. We recycle a lot of paper, and I've started working on composting again, but we could be doing a lot more. May be a project for the kids and me this summer.

3. Have you ever been to a strip club?
I haven't. I'm not in a big hurry to run out to one, either. I'm not offended by them, they just aren't for me.

4. Do you have a nickname?
You mean other than "Mom"? Not really. I get called Meg occasionally, but not often.

5. What's a name you can't stand to be called?
I had to giggle, because I try to write my responses before I go read what everyone else had to say, so as to not be unduly influenced, but I saw Keely's and it was perfect.
I hate when they call me "Ma'am" - "Ma'am" is my grandmother. I'm not ready to be "Ma'am" yet. I get it, that it's a respect thing, that I should be flattered. I'm not. Just makes me feel old.

6. What are your Summer staples?
Sunscreen. Flip flops. Sunscreen. Tank tops. Did I mention some sunscreen?

7. What was the last thing you bought for yourself?
I bought me some Wheat Thins and a Baby Ruth the other day...
The last "thing" I bought for myself was my domain name. My hubs picked up the composter I wanted this weekend, though. He bought it, but only 'cause I told him to.

8. Are you happy with your boob size?
Yeah, I am. Overall, I'm good with who I am and how I'm built.

Okay!
Now, I'm super excited to share with you all my summer project.
The timing couldn't be any better. I want my kids to learn to appreciate healthy foods, and to that effect, we have signed up to receive local, organic produce weekly from an area farm project. Our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) purchase means that for $15 a week, over the next 25 weeks, I will have a bounty of fresh produce.
This last week opened up another opportunity for us, as I was contacted by a representative from Burpee Home Gardens about a project they are working on. Their "I Can Grow" program is designed to help encourage gardening in young (or young at heart) novice gardeners. My kids and I are going to grow a small variety of produce of our own - 3 types of tomatoes, 2 kinds of peppers and a couple varieties of basil. I'll be sharing our experience on Burpee's blog - I'll let you know when I have articles appearing, but I'm going to encourage you to visit regularly.
It's my goal that by the end of the summer, my children will have developed a new appreciation for food, especially fresh foods. I also love that I have the chance to support local businesses, and do a bit more on my part in helping the environment. I might even have enough stuff that I have to get all kinds of domestic and do some canning!

Ok, this post has been pretty long - thanks for hanging with me through the end of it! Off to get my Linky on!

  2. Love your answers, Megan! I hate being called Maam, too. Ugh!

I love Burpee - I've tried my hand at vegetable gardening for years, now...just cannot handle the weeding. Cannot. So, Burpee is delivering 30 rasperry bushes soon to fill up my lovely fenced in veggie garden! I'll still have a few containers at the base of my deck, but I'm berry patchin' it! I'll have to check out your gardening blog, though!
